★ The short version

Dark Launcher has no internet permission at all. Not “we promise not to upload anything” — the app is built without network access, so it physically cannot send your data anywhere. There are no accounts, no analytics, no adverts, and no servers.

It also asks for no photo or media permission and no “query all packages” permission: it is shown the apps that have an icon, and the one file you hand it from the system picker. None of this is something you have to take on trust — the app’s permission list on Google Play is the whole story, and none of those three are on it.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Dark Launcher (“the App”), developed by Mr SS Applications, handles your information. Dark Launcher is a home-screen launcher that organises and opens the apps already installed on your device. It is private by default — your data stays on your device.

2. What is stored, and where

The App does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. Everything below is stored and processed on your device only, in the App’s private, sandboxed storage:

Your launchable app list — read to display, search and launch your apps. It is read from Android each time it is needed, never copied out.
Your launcher settings — home layout, dock, tabs, layout pages, widgets, the chosen page effect, clock and appearance options.
App lock & hidden apps — the list of apps you lock or hide.
Your PINs — the PIN itself is never stored. Only a salted, one-way verifier is kept (PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256), which can check a PIN you type but cannot be turned back into it. The same applies to the Do Not Touch tap sequence.
Notification data — for badge counts, and to suppress alerts from apps you have hidden. Counted on your device as they arrive; their content is not stored.
Images, videos and GIFs you pick — chosen through Android’s document picker, so the App only ever receives the single file you selected. It is copied into the App’s private storage. For an animated wallpaper, still frames are extracted from your clip and stored as images; the first frame is also set as your system wallpaper so the lock screen matches.

3. Permissions, and why

Only the home-screen role is needed to run. Everything else is optional, is requested only when you turn on the feature that needs it, and can be revoked at any time in Android Settings.

Default home / launcher role — so the App can be your home screen.
Your launchable apps — so the App can list, search and launch them. Android shows it the apps that have an icon, and only those. The App does not ask for the “query all packages” permission, so apps with no icon — background services, plug-ins, components — stay invisible to it.
Notification access (optional) — to show unread badges, and to hide alerts for apps you have hidden. Read on your device only.
Accessibility service (optional, App Lock) — to notice which app is coming to the foreground, so a locked app can be held behind your PIN. It reads only the name of that app, and keeps it just long enough to decide whether to ask for your PIN. This is not merely a promise not to look at your screen: the service is registered with screen-content access switched off (canRetrieveWindowContent="false"), which Android enforces — so it cannot read what is on your screen or what you type, in any app, even if it tried.
Device admin (optional) — used for one thing: turning the screen off when you double-tap the home screen.
Display over other apps (optional) — to show the app-lock screen and the Do Not Touch child-lock overlay above other apps.
Usage access (optional) — to sort your apps by most used.
Widgets — to place and host the home-screen widgets you add.
Set wallpaper — to change your wallpaper from the launcher.
No photo or media permission — the App has none, and does not need any. A wallpaper or custom icon is chosen through Android’s own document picker, which hands the App the one file you picked and nothing else. Your gallery is never opened, listed or searched.
Uninstall apps — to remove an app from its menu. Android asks you to confirm every removal.
Notifications, vibration, run at startup & battery-optimisation exemption — to show the App’s own alerts, give haptic feedback, and keep app lock working after a restart.

4. Backup & restore

Settings → Backup writes your preferences to a JSON file at a location you choose. This is the one feature that puts your settings outside the App’s private storage, so it is worth understanding:

The file deliberately excludes your PINs (master and per-app), your Do Not Touch sequence, and your hidden and locked app lists. A backup cannot leak your PIN or reveal which apps you hid, and restoring one cannot install a PIN someone else chose.
It contains your cosmetic and layout settings only — grid sizes, colours, fonts, the chosen clock and page effect, and which apps sit where on your home.
Once written, the file is yours to look after. If you save it to a cloud folder, it goes wherever that folder goes. The App never uploads it.
Backup and Restore are both behind your master PIN when you have one set.

Separately, Android’s own cloud backup is turned off for this app (allowBackup="false"), so your settings are not copied to Google’s servers by the system either.

5. Crash logs

If the App crashes, it writes the technical details of that crash to a file on your device at Android/data/mr.ss.darklauncher/files/last_crash.txt. It holds the error, your device model and Android version — nothing about you, and nothing about your other apps.

It is never sent anywhere. It exists so that you can send it to us yourself, if you choose to report a problem. You can delete it at any time, and clearing the App’s data removes it.

6. How information is used

Solely to provide launcher functionality on your device — arranging your home screen, searching and opening apps, remembering your preferences, holding apps you locked behind your PIN, and showing or suppressing notifications as you choose. It is never uploaded to any server operated by Mr SS Applications, and never shared with third parties.

7. Data sharing & security

We do not share your information with anyone, because we never receive it. Your settings live in the App’s private, sandboxed storage, which other apps cannot read.

Being straight about the limits: app lock and hidden apps are designed to deter casual snooping by someone holding your unlocked phone. They are not protection against a determined attacker, against someone with physical access and technical tools, or against anyone who knows your PIN. Dark Launcher is a launcher, not a security product.

8. Disclaimer of Liability

The App is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind. Mr SS Applications is not responsible or liable for any loss, damage, corruption, deletion, modification, overwriting or unintended change of any files, data, settings or configurations on your device arising from the use of or inability to use the App, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

9. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
